Policymaker Resources

The Governing Guides to Public Financial Literacy, written by the Center for Municipal Finance’s Justin Marlowe, are an indispensable resource for state and local officials. Volumes 1 and 2 cover where local government money comes from and where it goes, how local governments craft their budgets, how to read government financial statements, and many other foundational topics. Volumes 3 and 4 cover the financial and operational basics of public-private partnerships. Below the links to each volume can be found:

Data Resources

The Center for Municipal Finance is the academic partner of several industry data providers. We are currently in the process of establishing an agreement system with data vendors which will allow researchers to enter an agreement with them. There will be more information on this topic in the coming months.

Rethinking Revenue

The Center for Municipal Finance is proud to be a partner in the Rethinking Revenue project sponsored by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Learn more about the project and access reports here.
